John Jansen is full professor in Biomaterials, Experimental Implantology and Experimental Periodontology and acts as Head of Dentistry and the Department of Biomaterials. John Jansen occupies also a position as professor for the Dental Implant and Osseointegration Research Chair at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (www.ksu.edu.sa or www.diorc.net).

Research

 

 

Research interests include biomaterials and tissue engineering. Major current projects include the development of a synthetic bone graft that functions in the same way as autogenous bone. The “holy grail” in this research is to develop a material that does not require additional biological factors to induce bone formation. Another research aim is to implement well-controlled nano-scale topography on the surface of an implant, which induces changes in the adhesion, shape and cytokine expression of cells.
